Steve Jani is CEO of the Fort McMurray First Nation Group of Companies, a diversified business wholly owned by Fort McMurray 468 First Nation. Since the group's 2021 rebranding, he has expanded its construction, custodial, fuel, and transportation operations while pushing to modernize safety protocols and internal IT systems.
Jani leads with a philosophy built around safety, teamwork, integrity, and communication, values he actively passes on to emerging entrepreneurs and staff across the organization. He favors a supportive, hands-off management style over close oversight, giving managers room to make decisions.
He describes his own approach to leadership as a continuous work in progress, shaped by meeting new people and encountering different client values and visions, and treats ongoing learning as core to how the organization operates.
