Helen Gordon is Chief Executive of Grainger plc, the UK's largest listed residential landlord, a position she has held since January 2016. Before joining Grainger, she held senior real estate roles at RBS, where she served as Global Head of Real Estate Asset Management, and at Legal and General Property, in addition to earlier leadership positions at Railtrack and John Laing Developments.
Under her leadership, Grainger has roughly doubled in size, and the company has set out plans to grow again from around 8,000 to 18,000 homes. Gordon has pushed the business to compete on service as well as scale, offering tenants amenities such as broadband, co-working spaces, and gyms alongside strong tenant protections, and the company maintained rent collection rates of 97 to 99 percent through the pandemic.
Gordon is a vocal advocate for building genuinely mixed teams across gender, age, and ethnicity, arguing that diversity of perspective helps a business understand its customers and strengthens its resilience. She also champions closer partnership between build-to-rent developers and local authorities as a way to help address the UK's housing shortage.
