Robert Bedard is CEO of MOXY OID, a green building materials startup based in the Fraser Valley. He brings more than 30 years of experience in financial services, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial development, including leadership roles at Bank of BC (later HSBC Canada) and founding Citiclaims Brokers Inc., an early customer relationship management software company that changed how the Canadian insurance industry operated.
At MOXY OID, Bedard has overseen 18 years and roughly $20 million of research and development behind CERLOS, a proprietary building material made from plant fiber sourced from agricultural and forestry waste. The material carries a Class A fire rating, resists termites and water, and can be worked much like wood, while its manufacturing process sequesters carbon dioxide and produces no waste.
Bedard's approach to leadership draws on Steve Jobs' emphasis on communication that entertains, informs, and inspires, and he is willing to commit to long development timelines in pursuit of solutions to real market problems. CERLOS is now ready for commercial production, with siding planned as its first product to market at prices competitive with conventional materials.
