Nils Welin founded ProGuard Security Services more than two decades ago to fill a gap he saw in the contract security market, where smaller firms often lacked resources and large national companies tended to offer standardized, one-size-fits-all service. He built ProGuard around customized, high-touch security solutions tailored to each client's specific needs.
The company has distinguished itself through an emphasis on transparency and genuine client relationships, competing against much larger international firms by maintaining a regional focus and, as Welin puts it, earning its clients' business every day. ProGuard has also incorporated AI-enhanced video surveillance technology to improve service quality while helping clients manage security costs.
Welin has been vocal about wanting to elevate the security officer role from a historically low-status job into a more respected career path, with sustainable pay, competitive benefits, and room for advancement. During the pandemic, the company was able to maintain uninterrupted service by drawing on online infrastructure it had already built years earlier, while prioritizing the safety of its own employees.
