Dr. Madeline Burillo-Hopkins serves as President and Vice Chancellor of Workforce Instruction at Houston Community College, overseeing operations across multiple campuses and leading the college's workforce education initiatives system-wide. Drawing on her own experience working her way through school, she has built a career dedicated to expanding educational access and opportunity, particularly for underserved communities. Her leadership has helped secure more than $25 million in grants and launch innovative programs, including a coding-education partnership with Apple, apprenticeship centers, and free technical training, while mentoring women and students of color to pursue careers in high-demand fields.
Since joining HCC in 1999, Burillo-Hopkins has championed workforce development as a pathway out of economic hardship, especially during crises such as the pandemic. Her commitment extends beyond the college through service on regional and national education boards, where she advocates for closing skills gaps and creating economic opportunity for Houstonians facing barriers to employment and advancement.
