James A. Floros is President and CEO of the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, where he has applied disciplined business practices to expand the organization's reach across San Diego County. Under his leadership, and especially during the pandemic, the food bank roughly doubled its service capacity, reaching hundreds of thousands of people each month while directing the large majority of every dollar raised straight into programs and services.
Floros has built the organization into both a major food distributor and an advocate for nutrition security, running more than 200 direct distributions a month and partnering with hundreds of local nonprofits. Beyond food assistance, he launched the Food 4 Kids Backpack program, which has been linked to improved school attendance and academic performance among participating children.
He has also pushed the organization toward sustainability, helping it become one of the first food banks anywhere to achieve LEED v4 Gold certification through investments in solar power, recycling, and composting that have diverted large amounts of waste from landfills while lowering operating costs.
