Dr. Hao Pang is founder and CEO of Quantum Science, a British materials innovation company developing quantum dot technology for imaging and sensing applications. He earned a Ph.D. in materials chemistry in 2009 and spent two decades in the semiconductor industry before recognizing that quantum dots had far more potential than their established use in display screens.
That insight led him to focus Quantum Science on shortwave infrared sensing, where the company has developed INFIQ technology, a manufacturing approach that allows quantum dots to be deposited in a single step instead of the traditional multi-layer process.
Pang expects that innovation to help the company capture a growing share of the shortwave infrared sensing market, which he projects could expand nearly tenfold over five years, with consumer electronics applications reaching the market within a few years.
