Dr. Chris Senanayake is CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of TCG GreenChem, Inc., based in Princeton, New Jersey and Richmond, Virginia, and also serves as Chief Scientific Officer of TCG Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd. He co-founded TCG GreenChem with Dr. Joseph D. Armstrong III after earning a Ph.D. from Wayne State University researching the total synthesis of complex natural products and completing postdoctoral work under Professor Carl R. Johnson on polyol systems and novel C-nucleosides.
Before founding TCG GreenChem, Senanayake held research roles at major pharmaceutical companies including Boehringer Ingelheim, Sepracor, and Merck, work that contributed to bringing several multi-billion-dollar drugs to market. He has authored more than 450 scientific publications and holds 125 patents in green, sustainable manufacturing, and serves as an editor for several chemistry journals.
Senanayake describes his approach as servant leadership, focused on employee development and helping people work to their individual strengths, guided by a simple principle: treat others with the respect and transparency you would want for yourself. Professionally, he champions green chemistry, continuous flow chemistry, and catalysis as tools to speed up drug development while cutting both environmental impact and manufacturing costs.
