David R. Taylor serves as President and CEO of VersaBank, a digital financial institution he built from a small Saskatchewan trust company into a cloud-native bank operating across North America. Beginning his career at Bank of Montreal during the digital transformation of the 1980s, he recognized early that technology would fundamentally reshape banking.
Rather than waiting for industry consensus, Taylor acquired a modest financial institution in 1993 and rebuilt it as one of the world's first virtual banks, eventually securing a Schedule 1 bank charter in 2002. His platform serves underserved markets through intermediaries and has recorded essentially no material loan losses over three decades.
In 2024, Taylor extended the model into the United States by acquiring a rural Minnesota bank, and he has continued to innovate with blockchain-enabled Digital Deposit Receipts, reflecting his ongoing effort to bridge traditional banking with emerging digital finance infrastructure.
