Dave McIntyre is President and CEO of TriWest Healthcare Alliance, an organization dedicated to supporting military and veteran healthcare. Founded 25 years ago through a coalition of nonprofit health plans and university hospital systems, TriWest has secured major federal contracts, including a multi-year Department of Veterans Affairs agreement spanning 13 states and a separate contract covering Alaska, and has built a network of more than 700,000 community healthcare providers.
McIntyre's tenure has been defined by responsiveness during crises and a data-driven approach to problem-solving. After the 2014 wait-list crisis at the Phoenix VA Medical Center, his team moved quickly to clear backlogs within months, and he later developed what the company calls a "Demand Capacity Assessment Process" — a methodology for tailoring provider networks to the specific healthcare needs of veterans in different regions.
He has continued to push for closer coordination between TriWest and the VA, including more advanced digital portal systems that streamline how the two organizations work together, framing innovation as central to the company's daily operations rather than a one-off initiative.
